What You Should Choose for Your Energy Source: Natural Gas or Electricity

Have you ever wondered what kind of life our next generation is going to have in the next 50 years? Is life going to be easier to live? Will they have better access to health care and healthier environment? Will they live on the Earth we are living now yet have it better? Or probably worse?

Earth today has too many environmental problems already that it makes us wonder if it will be livable to the next 50 or 100 years later. One of the problem it has is the excessive use of electricity which leads itself to many other problems. Since the first electric light bulb was invented, human race keeps inventing things which use electricity as its main source of energy. Then fireplace was soon replaced by heater, people started to keep their food into refrigerator, and they turn on their Air Conditioning (AC) when the weather turns hot.

Electric bike and electric cars soon became popular electric stove is said to be saver than gas stove. But are they really safer and environmentally friendlier?

No matter how electricity is portrayed to be safer and more modern, it is, in fact, not. Electricity is most often generated by electromechanical generators. Those are primarily driven by heat engines which are fueled by combustion. In the U.S. it is estimated that about 65% of utility sole electricity generation is produced from fossil fuels such as coal (unrenewable energy), about 20% from nuclear energy, and only about 15% of it is from renewable energy. Renewable energy here may refers to kinetic energy of flowing water and the wind, solar photovoltaics, and geothermal power.

Natural Gas or Electricity

That fact clearly shows that electricity is not totally environment friendly. In comparison to natural gas, natural gas seems safer and more advantageous as it is primarily methane (CH4) which has a higher energy content relative to other fuel. While the use and the production of electricity emits carbon dioxide (CO2) and greenhouse gas emission (which contributes in trapping heat which in consequence of making the planet warmer), natural gas only emits CO2 in about half as much as the coal (the main resource of electricity) and fewer pollutants.Although natural gas is not the only option of the sources of energy, these specifics show that natural energy might be a good choice for people to change their source of energy.

In order to take the responsibilities in stopping the Earth suffering its death, humankind need to be more environmentally conscious about our carbon footprint. In fact, each country needs to reduce 50-60% of their gas emission to stabilize the world’s climate. We need to take real actions in reducing waste, in reducing the total usage of energy, and in making wise consumer choices. We must take a huge undertaking on our lifestyle if we want the Earth to be around for our future generation because we surely don’t want to take the blame in destroying the home of our own descendants.
